Because of the COVID pandemic, our programming has been greatly reduced this past year. Nonetheless we were open and serving the community via curbside pickup during the worst of it. As vaccinations become more prevalent, our programming will increase. So stay tuned!
Last November we hosted a family reading night where families could pick up an age-appropriate packet for their kids to share. Each packet included a book and a movie, with candy and popcorn. We hope this year we are able to do something in-house for the family.
Each Tuesday morning at 10 am we open the library early to our Senior Citizens, offering free coffee and tea, and a chance to browse the library collection as well as chat and play cards and games--all while staying at a safe social distance. Masks are required.
In cooperation with the Piatt County 4-H and the U of I extension program, we are offering kids entering 3rd grade and up the opportunity to grow their own salsa garden. This program is free of charge and registration is required by May 5, 2021. Register your child here.
Stay tuned for a list of classes being offered this summer by our own local, Tom Kinsella--landscaper extraordinaire. He will be offering a variety of classes for all ages over the summer. More details to come soon. Currently, Tom is working with our Senior Coffee Hour, building windowsill herb gardens.
Stay tuned for our summer reading challenge: open to kids of all ages. You won't want to miss it!
This year we hosted our first annual Bement Public Library Limerick Contest on St. Patrick's Day. We had winners in 4 categories who each received a medallion, and Patricia Fay won the title of Limerist Laureate of the Bement Public Library for 2021. Get your juices flowing for the contest in 2022!
If you have a great idea for programming our library could/should host, please let us know. We want to hear from you.
